Dinamo Moscow’s Luke Wilkshire (left) battling for the ball in the 2-1 loss to Zenit St. Petersburg (AAP)

This is a translated interview from a Russian website http://soccer.ru/news/293190.shtml

What do you think about Dynamo’s performances after the Winter Break?

We did not have a good start to this year, we had various disappointing results but eventually we managed to find our form once more. I believe we became stronger in all aspects of our game including tactically which is the most important aspect.

It is difficult to understand the poor start I feel we were unlucky at times such as the match against Spartak.

In your opinion what was the best and worst performance by Dynamo this year?

The biggest win would have to be the Russian Cup match against Zenit in St.Petersburg. It was an important match for our European aspirations and now we have reached the final. I can’t highlight any matches which I would say were poor.

What do you think about the quality of the pitches?

The pitches have hurt us at times this season and restricted our game such as the one against Spartak. The weather was bad and the pitch was not ready for such an important match, then again, the conditions were the same for both teams so it can not really be an excuse.

What are your thoughts on the match coming up against Zenit?

This will be a very difficult match. Zenit is very strong at home and have played very consistently this season. Zenit is ready to celebrate winning the title but I hope Dynamo can win as this game will be very important in our Champions League aspirations.

Tell us about the 1-5 loss to Zenit in March this year

I remember this match very well although I did not take part in it. Zenit scored three quick goals and we were very down on morale. Sometimes it happens – it’s football.

What are your thoughts on Zenit this season?

Zenit has played exceptionally well, they have an experienced squad who has played together for a few years along with a well organized game. It was always going to be difficult to compete with Zenit this season.

Do you think Dynamo can finish second this season?

It will not be easy as 5 teams are fighting for second place with only 3 points separating one another. Everything is in our hands we must win every game for a positive end to the season and qualify for the Champions League.

*note: Despite a goal line clearance by Luke in the game overnight against Zenit, he couldn’t prevent Zenit picking up the three points in a 2-1 win.

A big thanks to Maksim for the translation!
